Our Story

How it all started...

"We all know Rustburg United Methodist Church as our beloved place of worship but before May 11, 1958 our church looked very different and went by a different name. Previously RUMC was called Central Methodist Church.  CMC was founded in 1876, but after the 1968 union of The Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church it was found that there was already a “Central Methodist Church” in the Virginia Conference.

Several suggestions were made, but the decision fell on 'Rustburg Methodist Church.'  It remained this for a short time before RMC ultimately joined with the larger organization of the United Methodist Church and took the name we know today: 'Rustburg United Methodist Church.'"
- Lee Merryman, Church Historian

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
- John 13:34-35
